Homeowners opting for bigger TVs

Wednesday, 09 May 2012 10:41

According to the recent sales figures at Asda UK homeowners are upsizing their televisions.

The wet weather and the upcoming Olympics sporting events have both had an effect on the upsizing trend.

Asda has used these figures to put together a league table of the areas with the most 40” and larger televisions.

London is currently leader of the board, followed by Lancashire and the South East.

In the South West last year there was an 18 per cent rise in sales for TVs sized 40” and larger.

This moved the area up to number eight on the leader board.

“With the upcoming London 2012 Olympics, not to mention the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, more of us are upgrading to enjoy the events on a larger screen,” Asda’s technology expert Michael Arnott said.

“No doubt in part to the Royal Wedding, national sales of larger TVs rose by 12 per cent in 2011.

“As 2012 is set to be a monumental year, we expect this trend to continue across the UK.”

While London commands the leader board there has been little upsizing in the capital in the last four years opening up the top position to any area which sees a surge of upsizing activity.
