Eames Style Lounger now available from £749
Thursday, 16 June 2011 09:40One of the leading designers of the twentieth century, Charles Eames, is created, along with his wife Ray, with developing a number of innovative designs, many of which are now recognised and celebrated as masterpieces of the modern home design movement.
The Eames Style Lounger is a reproduction in the style of the Eames Lounger and Footstool, also known as the Baseball Glove chair because of the unique way it cradles the body in the leather upholstery.
The inspiration for the chair was a design created for film director Billy Wilder 1956 and this reproduction of the original faithfully recreates the Eames original intention but at a fraction of the cost of an original chair.
Charles Eames summarised their design philosophy when he said: “We wanted to make the best for the most for the least.”
The chair sits low and flexes slightly and unlike recliner chairs the seating position is ergonomically designed for real comfort.
In black leather and Rosewood veneer on a swivel base it adds sculptural presence to any room and provides a wonderful place to relax - a masterpiece.
The lounge chair measures 84 x 84 x 84 cm and the Ottomorman Stool W72 x D52 x H40 cm, and is available for £749.
